A wide range of documents can obtain an apostille for international use in Georgia, including:

  1. Legal Type Documents: Birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, adoption documents, and court orders.
  2. Educational Type Documents: Educational records, diplomas, transcripts, and academic certificates.

Original Document

You will need to make sure of the following:

  • You possess an original document or a duplicate that has been issued by Georgia.
  • The proper signature is on the document.
  • The original document has been recently obtained.

The apostille of the original takes anywhere from 4-10 business days.

The Georgia Secretary of State apostilles public and private documents if the following applies:

  • Georgia birth, marriage or death certificates should come from the State Department of Vital Records.
  • Georgia Vital Records must have been issued within the last 5 years to be valid for an apostille or certification.

Please note:

  • County Public Health Department documents are NOT accepted for apostilles or certifications.
  • Notarized documents and Secretary of State corporate documents are acceptable for apostilles.
    • The Georgia Notary Public who will be notarizing the document must comply with all Georgia State Laws by putting the proper text and exact date of the notarial act.
  • ALL requested certified copies must have the original hand-written signature for each document.
  • Stamp signatures are NOT accepted.

Scanned Photocopy of Original Document

You will need to make sure of the following:

  • Appropriate signature has NOT been provided
  • Original document has been damaged
  • Original document was issued more than10 years ago
  • Destination country will accept apostilles of a scanned photocopy of the original; an apostille of a scanned photocopy is accepted by most countries
  • You need the apostille within 24 hours

Please note:

  • Both the notary and the apostille must come from the same jurisdiction. Therefore, the scanned photocopy of your initial document will be apostilled and/or notarized in New York City.
  • ALL requested certified copies must have the original hand-written signature for each document.
  • Stamp signatures are NOT accepted.
